The struggle for gym motivation
Whether you have a weight loss goal or are just trying to get fit, it’s very easy to sign up for exercise classes; however, finding the motivation to actually go to the gym can be more difficult. After the first couple of weeks, all too often you find yourself making excuses to stay at home and avoid that workout. If you need to find your gym motivation again, here are some handy tips.
Pack your gym clothes
Evidence has shown that if you prepare your workout clothing the night before you’re due to go the gym, the more likely you are to actually go. Put your exercise gear in your bag and leave it by the front door, or take it with you in the car to work. That way, you’ll have a visual reminder to persuade you to go to the gym.
Healthy rewards
It’s OK to reward yourself for going to the gym as long as you don’t choose something too unhealthy! Promising yourself a coffee from your favourite coffee shop as soon as you’re done will lead to you anticipating the reward and therefore feeling better about doing that exercise.
Remind yourself of the body you’re aiming for
Try on those jeans that are too tight or that dress that doesn’t fit. Now remind yourself of how going to the gym regularly will help you to achieve the right body for those clothes. Take a photo of yourself in your too-tight outfit and then keep it on your phone ready to give you the motivation you need to work out.
Buy some great workout clothing
Make yourself look forward to going to the gym by buying a fantastic new workout outfit. Choose something that makes you feel good and enjoy wearing it when yo
u exercise.Bring a friend
The most motivating thing of all is to work out with a partner, so talk to your friends and see if you can persuade one of them to come along to the gym with you. Not only will you feel more obliged to actually turn up so as not to let your friend down, you’ll also push yourself harder to compete with them!
