Could you be a real lifesaver?

With the new Baywatch movie due to hit cinemas next year, we’re expecting there to be a flurry of interest in our lessons which lead to a professional lifeguard qualification. Why not beat the queues and sign up today?
Baywatch made lifeguarding look glamorous, with supermodels scanning California’s coast for people in trouble in the water. In real life, the emphasis is definitely more on essential skills you need to keep the public safe while they enjoy their swim in the pool. Our assessors train our lifeguard students to NPLQ (National Pool Life Guard Qualification) standard, preparing them for situations they’ll actually encounter.

Lifeguard NPLQ

A qualified lifeguard tends to work part time at a pool, which is why it’s a job popular with students aged 16+, who can fit the hours in around their studies. Age isn’t a barrier though – if you’re a strong swimmer with excellent vigilance and a cool head under pressure, you’re welcome on our 40 hour course. The requirements simply state that applicants:
• Must be able to jump or dive into deep water • Have the ability to swim 50m in less than 1 minute • Swim a continuous 100m on their front and/or back in deep water • Tread water for half a minute • Surface dive to the pool’s floor, then climb out without assistance (Such as a ladder or steps)
Once you’ve got some experience, you can also use it as a stepping stone to move up in the world of work in the leisure industry, if that’s something which interests you. You’ll find that many swimming pool managers started their careers as lifeguards.
Unfortunately, having the NPLQ doesn’t mean you’re ready to join David Hasselhoff just yet. In order to work as a lifeguard on the beach, you’ll need a separate qualification, the National Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NBLQ). This is quite sensible, if you think about it, because conditions you’d experience in swimming pools can be very different to those you’d see in the sea.
If you’re ready to join a team of real life lifesavers, and become a qualified pool lifeguard, get in touch with us and book your place today.
